Type Locality and Naming

By the village of Gulio, Southwestern Gissar. A.A. Abdusamatov, 1989 (Decision of the Paleogene System Commission of Central Asia RMSK, 1989). Stratotype in the area of the village of Gulio.

Synonym: Guliob Suite, Гулиобская св, Gulioy Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Greenish-gray clays, red-brown in the upper part. Up to 80 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Malanddaryin Fm and Rishtan Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain with erosion by Neogene deposits.

Regional extent

Southwestern Gissar, Mt. Babatag. To the west, the lower part of the suite is facially replaced by dark gray, black clays and argillites of the Malanddaryin Fm.

Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Nuculana crispata Koen., Pecten karadarjensis Korob., Astarte chanabadica Makar., Aralocardia Mica Ovetsch., Gari fischeri Heb. et Ren.; foraminifera - Cyclammina pseudocancellata Chal., Gyroidinoides ukrainicus (Maslak.), Eponides jacksonensis (Cushm.), Anomalina acutataurica Saml., A. affinis (Hant.), Globigerapsis tropicalis Blow. et Bann., Bolivina asiatica Moros., Neobulimina fraudulenta Subb.
